My students range from 3-5 years old and are able to qualify for our preschool by either having a developmental delay or being low income. This program gives children from all cultures, areas, abilities and various incomes an opportunity to learn and thrive within the district. My energetic preschoolers enter the classroom ready to learn, discover, and explore. They love being exposed to so many different experiences and opportunities and gleam with pride and excitement at learning new skills. They are an amazing group of kids!
My Project
Many of the students I teach live in extreme poverty or are refugees. When they are in the dramatic play center, they have the opportunity to dress up and role play whatever they want to be. It helps them imagine what they can be when they grow up. It also helps them with fine motor/dressing skills, language skills, and interacting with peers. It helps them with turn-taking and social cooperation. It also helps them see different jobs in our community, what those jobs entail, and how those people contribute and help our community. We have different community helpers coming to visit our classroom this year and it would be amazing to give the children the opportunity to dress up like them during their play.
