When Books are Like Christmas!

My students need 50 fiction and non-fiction books, including titles from the The Easy Reader, Easy to Read, and I Can Read series.

When you only get books at school, getting new books feels like Christmas morning or Disneyland! I teach 1st and 2nd grade special education as well as hearing impaired for the school (K-5). I will be looping up with most of my students next year to 3rd and 4th grade. Many of my students come from low-income families and do not own any books of their own or have families that take them to the library. They read one or more grade levels below that of their peers and struggle with reading. They are all in a regular classroom and receive support there from me.

My goal this year has been to provide them with bags of books on their reading level. Many of them have so many books in their bags are breaking. They are constantly begging to come to my room to get new books or asking if I brought them new books. When I share with them new books their eyes light up and they just can't seem to get enough. Reading is hard for them so for their love of books to be so high is remarkable. They read these books at home and school. Unfortunately I have no more books on their level or they have read all the books I can find. They do not read these books just once but over and over.

I need more leveled fiction and non-fiction books. The Easy Reader, Easy to Read, and I Can Read collections are wonderful. Not only are they on their various levels they look a lot like the chapter books their classmates are in. I need books like these that have wonderful stories and beautiful illustrations. These new books will allow me to continue supplying my students with books. I do not want to have to tell them "No, you can't have any more books." when these children who struggle with reading are begging for new and more books.

You will make it possible for my students to continue to succeed and improve. You will ensure that my students have books to read and better merge with their classmates without disabilities.
