I teach gym to low income but highly spirited children at a very special urban elementary school on the Southside of Dallas Texas. Each of our 540 students, grades kindergarten through 5th, has the opportunity to engage in a lesson about their bodies, nutrition, and exercise for 45 minutes, 3 times a week in PE class. Each of my students are unique but one thing they all have in common is their wealth of energy! I aim to provide students a physical energy outlet while teaching them habits and tips that will contribute to their lifelong health.
My basketball players love to win and keep score. I find that they are constantly asking and arguing over the tally of the games we play. I try and keep the arguing to a minimum but, if I am honest, I can't blame them. The score is an important element of the game. Even as an adult I find myself constantly checking the scoreboard in every sporting event I watch. That's why they keep it on the television screen throughout the entirety of the game.
I know that a tabletop scoreboard would solve all those problems and reduce arguing among the students during team practice and competitive games against other schools while engaging their wills to win.
A huge added bonus to the digital board is the time keeping feature. This will free me up to focus more on coaching and less on timekeeping while we are playing against other schools. I know this item will improve our basketball program.
