My Students

Today's classroom needs to involve the four C's. That is collaboration, communication, critical thinking, and creativity. I want to develop independent thinkers which are able to share their ideas or inquiries with fellow classmates in order to obtain a goal.

The students in my Honors Chemistry class are hard working and care about their grades.

It is a pleasure facilitating their journey of learning about the subject, including what goes on while they are sitting in their desks but more importantly when they are out of their seats. These enthusiastic learners love the opportunity to work with one another and investigate complex situations. Sometimes they achieve the desired outcome and other times they may not but I believe in trying your best. If students do not get their answers correct, then I encourage them to discuss this with each other to determine what may have gone wrong. By applying the four C's, I feel I am getting these students ready to conquer the workplace.

My Project

My students need two hands-on activity kits and refills that allows for them to discover the chemical and physical properties of matter. Is it a physical or chemical change? Is it a physical property or chemical? I teach the difference between all of these but exploring and investigating the differences is option that I would love to include to my instruction. I am planning on assigning this lab over a two week span in which chemical and physical properties are introductory discussed. First, I will spend a couple days teaching and assessing their understanding of the concepts. Then after they have shown proficiency, the student will investigate the first half of this amazing project. Then after completing the rest of the rigorous unit, the students will complete the second half of the lab.

Last year my students gained an enormous appreciation for chemistry and a reason for that comes from all the time spent on lab projects.

Over half of my honors chemistry students are enrolled in AP chemistry this fall and I truly believe that using this incredible project will be an amazing start to the school year.
