What's the Buzz About Bees?

Help me give my students more bee suits so we can get more bodies at the hives and a honey extractor so we can get the honey out of the frames next fall.

My Students

All students in our middle school will learn about pollinators. We learn about the birds and the bees, especially the bees! Students find out intimate details on honey bees. They learn about jobs in the hive, jobs outside of the hive, drones, queens, pollen, nectar, diseases, etc. Our problem is we don't have enough bee suits and equipment for large groups. All we have are 9 bee suits and four hives. We need more equipment to allow more students in the hives.

My Project

Students need bee suits so we can open the hive and keep our kids sting-free. Right now, we are limited on the number we can have because of only having 9 suits.

Part of learning about bees is the business side.

Students collect, extract, bottle, market, and sell the honey. We found how hard it was to do a good job with a worn out extractor we borrowed from a bee guy. A few kids got hurt when the handle would come off. We need to make our bee business fun, educational, and safe.
