This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We are a Title I middle school. My students are an eclectic group of students who require a smaller learning environment to be successful. They have social/emotional needs that range from ADHD to Bi-Polar. Some of my students will be in our Special Day Class all day, while others will be able to mainstream for a period or two. This is my second year in this program and third year at the school. I want to provide a safe and calm learning environment: one that will allow for movement in a way that gets their needs met in a healthy way. It is also important for me to provide tools that allow for them to access the curriculum and reduce their frustration.

My Project

We will be have weekly/bi-weekly lessons where students will have to follow recipes, work in small groups and create a meal. The students will learn how to make a shopping list, look for deals and plan how much food they will need based on the recipe.

There is nothing better than the smell of bread baking to motivate students.

:) I will also use the cooking supplies for fun Friday treats. Finally, all of these items will allow us to to teach student learn life skills, that can follow them after they leave school. Plus continue to support a healthy, positive community.
