What Your Heart Is Telling You

My students need heart rate monitors so they can learn about what their heart rate is saying about them.

My Students

Our classes are working more and more teaching these younger students to be more aware of their bodies and what they are telling them. Having access to these heart rate monitors will allow me to teach students more about what a healthy rate is as well as target rates for different activities.

My students are at the elementary level with my teaching focused on 3rd - 5th graders.

Our school is very diverse and the community is a large housing development so the yards are small. Therefore, a lot of the students don't get outside as much as I would like.

My Project

By having access to these heart rate monitors requested the students will be able to see how their heart rate adjusts to different activities. The hope is that they can then learn what kinds of activities they can do to get their heart rate to different targets as well as see the growth in their endurance levels as the year progresses.

I would like to use these with all students, but really want to see my kids that are not fit and show them how their heart rate fluctuates and rises with even little bits of activity.

This will help me teach them to work towards lowering those rates as their endurance builds. It could also help me possibly be aware of students who may show unhealthy rates so I can communicate with our nurse to see if further testing may be warranted.
