I work in a low-income area with a diverse blend of students. We have strong Native American and Finnish populations.
The students I work with are in 6th through 8th grade.
My students work very hard and would benefit greatly from extra incentives.
My students enjoy reading chapter books. I have found them to be a very valuable teaching resource. My students will actually read ahead and ask, "Are we reading today?" This lets me know that they are really enjoying what they are reading.
My Project
I would love to receive this classroom set of "Boy in the Striped Pajamas." My students' interests are always piqued when they realize that they are reading historical fiction. Even though this book is not a true story, it is a high-interest historical fiction book that tells a story of what could have happened during this horrific time in our history.
By receiving this book, I will be able to provide my students with high-interest reading to help improve their comprehension.
The additional teacher guides will help me guide my instruction to include the common core standards and give me some new ideas and strategies for improving comprehension.
