As a music teacher, I'm blessed to have the opportunity to teach my students something that they will carry with them for the rest of their lives: the love of working with their peers to create a functioning musical community.
This year, I'm teaching at a Title 1 school that is starting a music program for the first time in many years.
In fact, the music room is not even a music room yet! As you can see in the picture, it is being transformed from what is currently a math resource room to a space where musical education can take place. We have limited resources for the students to learn effectively; there aren't enough instruments for even a single class. I'd love to change this with YOUR help!
My Project
Right now, the music room at my Title 1 school is nothing more than a regular classroom with chairs, desks, and academic supplies. That's no place to teach music! What the room needs are instruments and musical resources to bring a well-rounded musical education to my students. My students need drums, bells, xylophones, triangles, and tambourines to make their music education an effective one! Without them, my students will be subject to only learning about music; not making it themselves.
The instruments that I hope to bring to the classroom will help my students create not only beautiful music, but a musical community within their class; something that I cannot teach, but only lead with the use of these resources.
