This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students come to school excited and eager to learn everyday. They show up with huge smiles and can’t wait to tell me what their dog did last night or that they finally lost their tooth! Learning can be hard for us all and when learning in Kindergarten gets hard it can end in tears. But when learning gets hard I always tell my kids to just try their best. I tell them that they are smart and that they can do anything. I make them say those words aloud. I want them to know I believe in them but most importantly I want them to believe in themselves.
I teach at a Title I school in California where 80% of our students receive free and reduced lunch.
Many of these students have difficult home lives. Despite this they want to learn, they want to come to school and they try their best each and every day.
My Project
Learning doesn't have to be dry and boring. And when you're 5 years old learning should be fun! I am asking for learning supplies that will not only help my students grow but will make learning fun! Having these interactive learning tools will make center time engaging and will also bring some variety to our room. My students are very tactile and need many different ways to learn new skills. Particularly those students who are struggling with reading and math.
We have centers each day where kids can practice their math and reading skills.
Using supplies like the play doh counting mats will make math more exciting while also addressing many students tactile needs. Many of my students struggle with their letter sounds, sight words and writing their numbers. Sound sorting boards, sound matching bingo, and sequencing trains will help support my students' learning. As a new teacher I have some items but having these additions would be amazing. I truly appreciate your support! Thank you.
