Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My third grade students come to school ready to learn, ready to ask questions, and ready for whatever adventure will come their way. As third graders they are becoming more independent, they are inquisitive about the world around them, and are developing a stronger sense of fairness and justice. My third graders love listening to a good story, enjoy reading for pleasure, and enjoy sharing their stories with others.
They love engaging in activities and projects that require working in groups.
Collaborative group work is important in our class. It teaches them to work together to achieve a common goal, it helps develop communication skills, be responsible, and tackle complex problems. In our class, we cheer each other on, we give compliments, and we raise each other up. A sense of community is clearly defined in our class.
Our school is located in an impoverished urban area of Los Angeles. My students do not have enough access to books at home, and have limited experiences to the world beyond their immediate community. School is their access to the world. Therefore, through an engaging learning environment and your help, my students will be successful individuals with 21st century skills.
My Project
The donations to this project will support my students' learning by providing them with high interest, kid-friendly, non-fiction texts. Third graders are very inquisitive and for most students have discovered that they are reading to learn (k-2 was learning to read). They are curious about the world and how things work. This donation will help students build knowledge, spark conversations and overall immerse them in real-world content.
I plan to use this resource to support reading skills, and build vocabulary.
Students will be able to explore new topics, and discover new interests, and at the same time build content vocabulary, use text features, and practice skills to support understanding of the texts.
