This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

When I moved to America from Australia and continued my career here as a PE teacher, I was so excited to share some cultural differences with my students in PE. Little did I know how much I would learn from my students about their cultures and beliefs. Together we are learning to enjoy and strengthen our relationship with physical activity to become lifelong participants in physical activities.

My students are motivated to participate in a range of multicultural activities woven into the curriculum here at our school to become informed citizens and live long healthy lives.

Whilst not every student is striving for a college degree, they each have personal goals they believe they can achieve in the short and long term. Every student is motivated in their own way and seeing them in a context outside of a classroom gives me confidence they will become knowledgeable world citizens.

My Project

This project will help students to connect their theoretical knowledge with the physical sensations experienced during PE to understand why and how their bodies react to different types of physical activity. The heart rate monitors will educate them on the connection between physical activity and health along with making them aware of how hard they can, and have, pushed their bodies when exercising.

Having these heart rate monitors available to students will make accurate data readily available which means students can spend less time measuring their heart rates manually and more time participating in physical activity to sustain a healthy life.
