What Is Theatre Without Sound?

My students need 4 theatre stage floor microphones and 4 replacement cables for those microphones so that their voices can be heard during their performance.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Do you remember when you first discovered that you had a voice that could be used to move people? Well, my students have to perform in an auditorium with no sound system. It's hard to move someone when you can't be heard.

The students that participate in our annual play are 2nd through 5th graders.

They are inner city kids, from low income homes. Over half of them are English Learners who are grasping the many nuances of the English language. Many of my students are below grade level, but they understand where they should be academically, and are working hard to get there. For many of these students, their sole opportunity to be exposed to the arts is at school.

My Project

I am asking for a donation of 4 theatre stage floor microphones, and 4 replacement cables for those microphones. These materials will be used for the students to complete a school play. Through the use of these microphones their voices will be heard. They will be able to focus more on learning and delivering their lines with expression, and less on the fact that the audience is getting restless because they cannot hear them. While learning their lines students will be practicing memorization, timing, delivering with fluency and expression, and cooperation skills. They will learn follow through, and commitment. In this activity they will be required to be active learners, to take and give constructive criticism,to perform in front of 200 or more people. Students will gain confidence in their ability to complete a task, and their memorization skills will have been strengthened. Students will learn that theatre can be an outlet for their emotions, and a way for them to be heard.

This project is important to me because there are currently no arts being offered at my school.

Your donation would enable me to expose students, families, and the community to the arts, and its powerful ability to create a desire to learn in students. Students would be able to deliver a better quality performance, because their voices would be heard, and they could focus more on content and delivery. Students will gain a new outlet with which to express themselves, that they can use in life.
