Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach high school students at a public school in San Francisco. All of them come to terms with their own unique realities that depend on their varying socioeconomic, cultural, and community-based backgrounds. I love them all and wish them the best in life.

My students need to prepare for the adult world.

They see this world operate around them in a swirl of information presented through the internet, television, social media, their families, business, politics, etc. They need to understand the multifaceted nuances of adult life so that they fend for themselves in a future determined by the work they accomplish.

I hope to utilize DonorsChoose as a resource to fund my students' breadth of experience. From these donations, I hope to create a classroom library of novels grounded in Social Justice. These books will provide an opportunity for my students to understand themselves and the world they live in.

My Project

My students, seniors in high school, are about to make the leap to full adulthood. A world where many don't know how to cultivate healthy practices of loving. This book will provide a foundation for my students to engage with and critically evaluate strategies to become more loving people.

In honor of the late academic, bell hooks, we will explore her analysis of love to inform our own introspection.

This will provide my students with the necessary skills to avoid, and overcome, the pain and hurt that comes from love. We will practice writing our own narratives with keen attention to naming our wants and needs for any loving relationship that comes our way.
