My Students

As Nelson Mandela once said, “Education is the most powerful weapon for changing the world.”

This is exactly what my fourth-grade students need in their daily lives.

They need the necessary resources to help them along the way to move forward and continue to succeed in this world that is full of literacy.

My students attend an inner-city school whose student body is diverse, both academically and socioeconomically. Many of the students are English Language Learners, and some were living in war-torn countries before coming to the United States for a better life and education.

My students are full of potential and are eager to learn. They come to school each and every day with smiles on their faces despite the challenges they face both at school and home. They do not have the required materials at home to practice what is being taught in the classroom. The instruction they receive in my classroom is usually the extent of their learning time. The support at home is little to none, mostly due to the lack of materials. They need to develop the skills to keep up in a world that is full of literacy.

My Project

My students have just arrived for a new school year and are already working so hard. In a world where technology is all around us, they are required to use Chromebooks to do a lot of their work. When it comes time for state testing, they need to type their responses, so we have already begun learning to be the best typists they can be.

Once they finish their work, they want to be able to print it out to take home and share with their family.

It is not possible to do this without ink. The printer in our classroom is low on ink, and we need more to last us throughout the school year.
