This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students walk into our classroom, every day, full of life, ready to learn, and excited for what is in store for them that day. They are a group of children who work hard at being an inspiration to themselves and to others. They enjoy incorporating what they have learned into real life experiences.
My students all live in developments known as the projects.
My school is a Title I school. Most of my students come from a life of poverty. They have entered my classroom two, three, and even four years behind their current grade level. All of my students, as well as those in the entire school, qualify for the free breakfast and lunch program. Despite their challenges, my students come to school regularly excited, ready, and wanting to learn. They want to rise above their circumstances. Even though my students were labeled as being well-below grade level learners, if you didn't know them, you wouldn't know it. They take their learning seriously and want to improve academically, behaviorally, and socially in my classroom. My students love completing projects that challenge them.
My Project
My students come to school motivated and wanted to learn at a higher level. What is stopping them is that they need basic school supplies to be able to complete their work. Parents are responsible for purchasing school supplies. This has been quite a challenge because the families that my students are a part of are very poor. The reason why my students aren't learning should not be because they do not have adequate school supplies.
Having these basic school supplies will make a great difference in my students' learning and lives.
Having basic school supplies will help them to be able to focus more in class and not have to worry about not being prepared to learn. I refuse to give my students a consequence for not coming to school with supplies when it is not their fault. Having basic classroom supplies will allow my students to be able to complete their assignments at school and at home in a timely manner. In addition, my students will learn responsibility because they will have to take care of their supplies for the entire school year. The classroom printer will be very useful to my students. Having a classroom printer will allow my students to be able to printout reports and project information from their laptops.
