This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The students that I serve are a group of extraordinary human beings. Despite many obstacles, my students rise to the challenge to be the best version of themselves. Everyday they are ready to learn with a smile on their faces. They live in surrounding NYC housing projects and a vast majority of children rely on receiving free lunch as their nourishing meal of a day.
I'd like to provide an opportunity for my third graders to experience the world outside of their school and neighborhood.
This way they can deepen their knowledge about the world by experience.
My Project
Prospect Park Zoo is an incredible place to connect third graders with nature and wildlife up-close and personal. My students love animals and are eager to learn about foxes, lizards, sea lions and more. Students will have an opportunity to feed a very friendly alpaca and sheep at the farm, watch an interactive sea lion show and learn about animal lifestyles.
The field trip connects to our nonfiction research unit that supports children's curiosity and engagement in a world.
Students will build their research and collaboration skills by reading and researching about different animals. Our trip will make a great impact on young children. This project will cover the cost of our trip.
