My Project

I have the pleasure of teaching art to a group of creative, respectful, and hungry-minded middle school students. We are proof that curiosity is contagious. My students are encouraged to take creative risks, engage in experiential learning, persist in problem-solving, and work through the creative process which removes limitations and replaces them with wonder, critique, inquiry, and innovation.

They are encouraged to explore and experiment with various media and techniques through the elements and principles of art and design as well as meet the State Department of Education standards.

I would like to provide my students with an in-depth unit on printmaking where they will explore a variety of relief-printing styles. Throughout the 6-week unit, students will gain a greater understanding of the printmaking process and techniques by creating a single-color design print, hand-tinted print, a printmaking collage, and a reduction print.

The grant provides a wonderful opportunity to introduce and explore the principle techniques of printmaking and provides a strong foundation for other printmaking techniques such as woodcut, intaglio, etching, lithography, collagraph, and monoprint/monotype. The printmaking unit will build a stronger foundation for the art program by providing another platform for expression. It can help spark students’ creativity and build greater interest in the visual arts. It will also help differentiate my art students from other local and regional art programs by expanding their awareness of the visual arts. Many schools do not offer this type of program because it is costly and takes a higher-level educator to teach it.

Moreover, enriching our students’ lives with more technical experiences provides greater knowledge and empowers them to implement various techniques to satisfy their artistic expression. They will easily be able to do this using the items from the Blick Blue Easy-To-Cut Class Pack and the inking plates I am asking for.
