My Students

As you walk down the busy halls walking hand in hand with your mom (or dad) your heart is racing with a nervous excitement as you look to find which room will be your new home for the next 180 days. It's the first day of kindergarten and you can't wait to start learning!

As students enter our room they are welcomed with a classroom full of books, colorful manipulatives, games, art materials, computers, and so much more.

They don't know it, but these are all tools that will be used to help them learn and grow during the year we share together. We are an arts school where the focus is on teaching all the literacy, math, science and social studies standards through the arts (dance, music, drama, and visual art). We are located in a rural area where 75% of our students receive free or reduced lunch.

My Project

While our students are lucky enough to have many tools to use at school, they have very little to use to support their learning at home. We need the center-in-a-bag literacy and math take home activities to help support their learning from our classroom in their own home. With these learning centers-in-a-bag, students will be able to take a small piece of our classroom home with them. Not only does this help the student, it also helps the parents and caregivers who often struggle to know exactly how to help their child at home.

Studies have shown time again that one of the keys to student success is a strong connection between school and home.

With these materials we will be able to help strengthen and support that bridge for our students. Kindergarten is such a fun and exciting time in these young students lives but we also know that this is the time where the groundwork for their success in school is being laid. Please help us build a strong foundation and a strong future for all our students!
