My students are amazing. There is no questions about that. Despite an extremely high poverty rate (97% school wide) and various other factors including escalating crime and unemployment rates, my students come to school everyday committed to learning. Whether they realize it or not, these bright, intelligent 8 and 9 year olds, are on the right path to escape the cycle of poverty that pervades the community where they live.
My request is simple, we need more books! My students have worked so hard this year, that even though it is only January, more than have of them have met the end of 3rd grade benchmark, and are ready to move on to 4th grade reading materials. Unfortunately, no such reading material currently exists in my classroom.
I am asking for 2 book sets (on two different levels) in order to ensure that my student's academic potential isn't stiffed. My students need to read. They love to read! They just need the resources with which to do so.
Please don't let my student's education stop in January of 3rd grade! My students need books that will take them to the end of the year, and ensure that they continue to positive academic trajectory that they are on.
