This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Currently I am trying to reach 21 students through distance learning. I am utilizing a variety of platforms to meet their needs to the best of my ability. My classroom is home to a large population of students with special needs and also those who are English Language Learners, therefore reaching them all at their level is a challenge. The best way to teach my curriculum is through modeling concepts.

My students have shown dramatic growth since the beginning of the year.

They have worked hard and remained dedicated. I need my home to be an extension of my classroom in not only routine, but the way I present information to them. I want to continue to build on the growth they have made so far.

My Project

My students thrive on working along with me. Our typical lesson starts at the rug for collaborative work with brainstorming and practicing concepts and ideas using dry erase boards. I model for my students what I expect of them so that they have clear expectations.

In order to provide effective modeling, I will use the document camera to project what I'm doing.

For example, we will collaboratively decide on a sentence frame when writing an essay and I will draft it directly on a graphic organizer which I need to print from home. From there I will model how I edit it and make it better using pen and paper. The students are able to follow along with what I'm writing and feel confident in their ability because they witness how much time it takes to accomplish the task at hand (as opposed to typing it). I strive to keep lessons organized and sequenced and in order to do so, a lesson plan book is vital. I'm working already on planning lessons for the fall.
