My students need a video camera to record the skits and plays the drama class performs, so they can critique them and save them to enjoy again.

My Students

Populations 475 - that is what the sign at the edge of our town reads. Our small rural school has a small budget, but my drama class has big ideas - to put on a play. We need a video camera to help us critique our practices and record our final production for posterity!

Our school is a small, K-12 public school in an agricultural community.

The main entertainment in our town is sports - basketball, baseball, and track. It is one of those towns where your mother knows before you get home from school that you got in trouble that day. While there are many advantages to living in this friendly community, we have very little opportunity to provide cultural experiences. For example, the closest major art museum is a three-hour drive away, as are live-performance theaters. We do have a community theater in the next town, but the tickets are expensive enough that few of my students get to go to their performances. I would love to get them fired up creatively, and possibly give those students who do not excel in the sports that are so popular in our town a chance to shine as actors in a play.

My Project

I am asking for a video camera, so the students can tape their skits and performances for review and to preserve their performances. I feel this will make them feel more professional, and may encourage a future cinematographer or director. I imagine them seeing their world through the lens of the camera, while learning more about the craft of acting and making videos.

By receiving this donation, my students will feel their attempts are important and valued by others.

It will fuel their creativity and increase their chances of success in a venue that has not been explored very much in our small community.
