Our school is a small, K-12 public school in an agricultural community. The main entertainment in our town is sports - basketball, baseball, and track. It is one of those towns where your mother knows before you get home from school that you got in trouble that day. While there are many advantages to living in this friendly community, we have very little opportunity to provide cultural experiences. For example, the closest major art museum is a three-hour drive away, as are live-performance theaters. We do have a community theater in the next town, but the tickets are expensive enough that few of my students get to go to their performances. I would love to get them fired up creatively, and possibly give those students who do not excel in the sports that are so popular in our town a chance to shine as actors in a play.
