This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
An energetic, curious group of children ranging from Kindergarten to Fifth Grade, my students at our Title I school give me nearly 1,000 reasons to teach every day. Teaching in inner-city Atlanta means that my students come from many different walks in life but when they come into my room, all of the worries, stress, and uncertainty melt away as we create music together.
Ranging from quiet learners to total divas, my students want to learn in a way that is hands-on, creative, and memorable; my desire is to give them this and more.
Whether it be on the stage or behind the classroom door, my "Mini-Mozarts" are inventive, generous, and hard-working dreamers who think beyond their boundaries and strive to give their best.
My Project
Recently completing my First Steps in Music certification, I was simply inspired to bring back everything I learned into my classroom with gusto! Unfortunately, neither my school nor I own any of the materials showcased; my goal is to apply everything that I learned with not only fidelity but with the intended resources as well!
I specifically choose these materials because I know they will aid my students becoming more tuneful and artful!
Pitch Exploration Stories and Pathways will help my students warm up their voices, while CD's and Move It DVD's will give my students the opportunity to move and respond creatively. Oh, In The Woods and Down ByThe Bay Flashcards will help my students recall classic folk songs and give visual cues. Combined, these resources will take my students to new musical heights!
