Our students at DCS have enthusiasm and passion towards learning STEM. They love any STEM challenges or projects we send their way, and put their all into doing their best. I have seen some amazing engineering and teamwork over the past 6 months in my 5th graders and in students across the school. Their creativity, collaboration, and perseverance impress me each and every day.
We want our students at DCS to have the opportunity to participate in extracurricular activities that reflect their passions and interests in STEM.
Currently, we are a K-6 school but are expanding to include 7th grade next year. It's for this reason that we will be offering a Robotics League next year to 5th-7th graders that will compete against other schools across the metro in February.
My Project
These three LEGO Robotics kits will allow twelve 5th-7th graders to participate in our Robotics Club. Students will work in teams of four to build their robot, research how it moves, and use code to make it move. We will register in the FIRST LEGO League competition so students can research a real-world problem such as food safety, recycling, energy, etc., and are challenged to develop a solution. They must take all their research and coding to then compete on a table-top playing field.
It all adds up to tons of fun while they learn to apply science, technology, engineering, and math concepts (STEM), plus a big dose of imagination, to solve a problem.
The students involved in Robotics Club will develop critical thinking and team-building skills, basic STEM applications, and even presentation skills. They also practice the Program’s Core Values which emphasize discovery, teamwork, and good sportsmanship.
In order for us to participate on any level, these LEGO Robotics kits are crucial. Without them, we cannot have a Robotics Club. We need your help to make this a reality!
