Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

I've been watching my students grow so much this year. I am so excited that our district has brought play back into the classroom.

Students need time to build their social skills, and dramatic play is an important part in achieving this.

My students love to visit the "housekeeping" center. I've seen them start taking on roles and building their oral skills daily! I would love to be able to expand my dramatic play centers to include more theme-related items that relate to the concepts we are studying. I think this would help the students learn the material so much easier and in a fun, playful way.

My Project

Dramatic play is making it back into the classrooms finally! Researchers have found that play is an essential part of children's learning. My students need to have time to move so purposeful play is a great way to get them up moving while still learning. I hope to encourage their oral skills, social skills, and creativity. This diner with pretend foods will help the students build necessary skills such as patience, taking turns, working out problems, phonemic awareness. The barbershop materials will help with these skills as well as oral communication. Students need time to talk and these play props will do just that!
