You would feel isolated. Well, that was what life was like for my students before you contributed to my project. The gift of speech is what you have given to my students with your contribution to \"We Need a Voice!\"\r\n\r\n\"We Need a Voice! \"Project has let me launch technology in the form of iPad with the protective case along with an app that turns it into a speech-generated device. We call the device a Talker. The talker has invigorated my classroom. Keeping the Talker in the protective case allow the students to have mobility throughout the school day and the school environment. The case allows my students to use the iPad without the fear of breaking it. My students are expressing their ideas, wants, and needs with a speech generated device in all settings in the school building.\r\n\r\nMy students are overjoyed with their new Talker. They are excited about having their own voice to express themselves at school now. They do not want to put the Talker down. Students went from wandering around the classroom to now are using the iPad to communicate with their classroom peers, other adults, and me. Can you imagine having words to communicate and not being able to? Myself, I would be sad and lonely. That was my students, sad and lonely. I saw the loneliness in my students. Now, I see the smiles and laughs of my students due to their new-found voice. It is an amazing gift that you have given to my students. Their communication skills have increased in expressive language.\r\n\r\nI would like to tell you about one of my students whose communication has improved considerably since being exposed to the Talker. Hayden is a four-year-old male student with Autism. He is functionally nonverbal. Hayden in the past got distressed and would not participate in classroom activities. Now he is able to talk using the device to say \"I want....\", count to 31, participate in circle time, and so much more.\r\n\r\nCommunication in the school environment has significantly improved as well as their emotional well-being. Thank you for assisting in the overall educational development of my students at McDonald Elementary.","fullyFundedDate":1738989039017,"projectUrl":"project/we-need-a-voice/9072056/","projectTitle":"We Need a Voice","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Anna","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9639099_orig.jpg?crop=614,614,x685,y1260&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1739033750891","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9639099"},{"teacherId":7886778,"projectId":8483058,"letterContent":"Thank you all so very much for your donations! One of the greatest gifts for me was the mini etch-n sketches, stress balls and treats – these where used to give them for Christmas. They were so excited to open the boxes and discover all the colorful, hands-on tools. It's wonderful to watch them as they develop deeper understandings of fractions through hands-on learning. They are able to go to the board and physically manipulate these magnetic fraction pieces, comparing sizes and exploring equivalencies like exchanging 1/6 for 2/12 or 2/3 for 4/6. This interactive approach allows them to see relationships between fractions in a concrete way. Additionally, they bring the fraction pieces to our group table, where they work together to solve fraction addition and subtraction problems. By physically moving and rearranging the pieces, they build confidence and develop a stronger number sense, making abstract concepts more accessible and meaningful. \r\n\r\nThank you again for your generosity!
