My Project

Chess is more than just a game; it's a powerful tool for cognitive development. This project aims to introduce the captivating world of chess to students at our urban high school.

Students are coming into the library and are sitting down to the chess table, but are at a loss as they do not know how to play.

Help me bridge this gap by providing access to high quality instructional books, some signs with the rules, a chess clock and a few resources we will empower our students to:  

Develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills: Chess demands strategic planning, analytical thinking, and the ability to anticipate consequences, invaluable skills in all areas of life.  

Enhance focus and concentration: The game requires sustained attention and the ability to navigate complex situations, fostering crucial cognitive skills.  

Build self-confidence and resilience: Chess teaches students to analyze their own moves, learn from setbacks, and persevere towards their goals.

Create a positive and engaging learning environment: Chess provides a unique platform for students to collaborate, compete, and build valuable social skills.
