If you've ever spent time in a first-grade classroom, you would know how energetic, loving, and special each student is. They have a love for learning that is magnetic. They WANT to learn and they LOVE coming to school every day. Once you enter a first-grade classroom, it is easy to get sucked into the passion for learning.
My first graders and I - we are all part of our own tiny community.
We grow together, laugh together, and sometimes we even cry together. We use our imaginations and go to places far away in the books we read; we become scientists and mathematicians. My first graders inspire me every day to be the best I can be. I only hope I can inspire them as much they inspire me.
My Project
The "traditional" way of learning is making a shift. We are now teaching our students through real-world, inquiry-based learning. According to stem.org, "STEM education will prepare our students to face the challenges of tomorrow's increasingly complex world, one in which we will all be tasked to become more comfortable with the challenges and solutions, found in STEM. There is no better way to do this than through play.
Curiosity and creativity is what drives students' motivation to learn.
I will use LEGOs in my classroom to develop their curiosity of science, technology. engineering and math (STEM). They will build, collaborate, face challenges and solve problems all while using their imaginations.
