Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

The importance of social-emotional learning (SEL) for middle school students cannot be overstated. Our students have many risk factors due to poverty, homelessness, and experienced trauma. Having a curated collection of SEL literature easily accessible to students can significantly contribute to their well-being. Students at this age cannot articulate clearly what their needs are or may not understand there is a book for that! We need a new bookcase that showcases a variety of SEL titles that is easily accessible. Some of the genres showcased would be realistic fiction, historical fiction, biographies, picture books, poetry, and nonfiction personal growth titles.

A designated bookcase for social-emotional books would not only benefit students but also streamline the process for teachers.

Our school district requires teachers to address SEL needs in their classrooms through activities and texts. Having a centralized location for a variety of SEL genres would make it convenient for educators to incorporate these resources into their lesson plans. Picture books and poetry books work well for teachers.

Having a dedicated bookcase for social-emotional books will support the emotional development of our students. Thank you for considering funding for a bookcase that can have powerful results!
