Imagine a classroom inside a public housing community building and seeing 20 young children from low-income, ethnic, and diverse family backgrounds smiling, talking, and engage in learning. It’s what occurs in my Head Start Preschool classroom. We are a community within a community.
Being inside for seven and a half hours can be challenging for 20 preschoolers. We are not afraid of little falling snow on the ground, several inches of snow on the ground, or being a little bit cold. We are hardy Minnesotan kids and enjoy the fresh air and playing in the snow. However, we do want to be dressed appropriately for the weather.
The most significant benefit of outdoor play for children is more prevalent inside the classroom.
They can focus better, and their body is calmer and ready to learn. Besides developing muscles strength and gross motor skills, it is to awaken our body and mind for well-balanced health.
