We're All in a Bind

My students need 1 1/2" binders in order to stay organized in our English/language arts class. We use these binders instead of text books, and organizational skills will continue to benefit them for a lifetime.

My Students

My students are eighth graders in English/language arts. We are the only middle school located in our county. We are in the very center of West Virginia - an area that has suffered greatly from the economic downturn. With a high unemployment rate, many families struggle just to feed and clothe their children, let alone buy school supplies.

Often, we teachers have purchased supplies for our students out of pocket to help off-set the cost for parents.

We make sure our students have the materials they need to be successful in class despite our low socioeconomic status. Our students see that despite a lack of resources, they can still be successful.

My Project

I have been using three-ring binders with my eighth grade students for the last ten years. We don't use text books, so the binders are used to organize notes and homework assignments. I have seen great improvement in their organization, and the binders help them to be more responsible with their materials.

Because we live in such a low socioeconomic area, parents often have difficulties providing these materials for their students.

I want my students to have the best, but I cannot afford to purchase everything out of pocket. I am requesting binders for my students. Helping out with my project will not only help me, but it will help my students and their families as well.
