My Students
My classroom is filled with eager and ready to learn first graders! I have built and fostered an environment where kids can feel safe and loved. Our school is not located in the safest part of the city but our school has provided a safe place for our kids. We have Saturday and Sunday recreational activities that provide a safe place for kids to play.
Although these children come from all aspects of life, it does not define who they can become.
I have students that come from shelters, programs, single family homes, farmworker parents and foster care. Although they have many obstacles in their life, receiving a proper education is not one of them.
My Project
My rumbustious first graders need to be constantly moving as they are learning. I try to incorporate a lot of brain breaks while we learn. However, when it comes to independent work, my kids have a hard time focusing on finishing their work if they are sitting on their desk.
My kids need flexible sitting so they can have a choice of where they want to complete their work.
The balance ball chairs will be a choice for those students that want to work at their desk. During guided reading, the students that I will be seeing will be using these balance ball chairs. The lap trays will be used for students that want to work on the carpet. These trays allow them to have a hard surface to work on. The clipboards will be used for students that want to lay on the floor to work. These flexible seating options will be used during their independent work in ELA or math.
