My Project

The items I am requesting will allow me to teach rural ways to urban students. So many of my students are moving out of city limits. They are wanting to learn new skills about older and more sustainable/ self sufficient ways of life. All of these chicken brooding items are needed from hatching eggs, containing the hatched chickens, and feeding/nourishing their needs.

The goal of this project is to show the hatching process to students.

The care it takes to properly tend to these animals. Then allowing these students to take the chickens home to use as egg layers and/or an alternative to pesticides. Students can use chickens to eat ticks and other unwanted bugs. They can also sell or donate their eggs at the school pantry and local farmer's markets, teaching community involvement and environmental care.

This unique learning opportunity will help influence these special students. Students that are wanting to learn new/old ways of sustainability, and that are in other words between times. History has a way of repeating itself and certain skills need to be remembered and taught. Luckily, these students live in a place where they have the ability to learn and thrive with these skills. IF, we present them with the right tools and knowledge.
