My Students
As the early childhood special education teacher, I have the utter privilege of helping to shape and mold the most unique set of students in their most crucial stage of development. The vast majority of my students are special needs in some capacity ranging in 3 to 5 years of age. I serve 2 sets of students for a half day, one group in the morning, and one group in the afternoon.
Our elementary is a trauma sensitive school that focuses on a positive learning environment centered on the love we have for each and every student that walks through our doors.
Our school motto is, "We love you, and there is nothing you can do about it."
My Project
A classroom rug is often the center fixture of the entire room. You can hang all the best posters, arrange desks and supplies in the perfect order, but the classroom rug will still be the first thing most people see when they walk in. It is the center hub and where most learning happens.
My goal with this project is to get a rug that will be inviting, soothing, and help promote a better learning environment to all of my students.
My current rug is at least 15 years old and has been well loved over the years. Due to the over love and overwhelmingly bright colors, I believe it is time to retire my current classroom rug and make way for a more neutral and calming rug.
Based on the structure of my classroom, being special education, I hope to bring in more neutral and calming colors into the space to help provide a less over-simulating space. My desire is to have a rug with more muted tones to promote free thinking and peace while learning and being engaged during circle time. My current rug provides a lot of distractions to the students that I would be eliminating with this new rug.
