My Students
I'm a special education teacher working in a Title 1 School. This is a low-income area where the majority of my students are underprivileged. My school currently services approximately 8 shelters that vary from homeless to drug rehabilitation centers.
Every day, I come to work realizing that technology will move education farther and faster than ever before.
My students don't have the privilege of coming to school with technological devices of their own. Although my students face many personal challenges on a daily, I would love to help them access technology in every way possible. With the use of technology, they will be able to embark on a new journey involving Project-Based Learning, STEM, and Near-pod to further access their education. I would really like for my students to explore the innovations of the 21st century through the use of technology.
My Project
Having this set of iPads will allow differentiated methods to take place in my classroom. My students will use these iPads in small groups in order to access web pages such as Near-pod, Kahoot, and district mandated programs. My students learn better from visuals and interactive programs. They have short attention spans and many times do not focus strictly on teacher lectures. I use Kahoot to check for understanding and provide a fun learning environment that also allows them to learn the content. With Near-pod, I am able to provide a variety of Power Points, interactive questions, virtual field trips, and practice questions based on the standards we are learning. Students can discuss with each other, as well as with me through this interactive program. The best part is that as a teacher, I can have those students who never participate join in on the fun! This will allow me to have a vast amount of activities for my struggling learners.
My project will make a difference because it will allow students to learn the content through technology never used before.
My classroom does not have the necessary technical equipment to make this happen for my students. This grant will allow me to apply 21st-century skills and make a difference in the life of my students. These new iPads will help welcome our displaced Hurricane Maria students by helping lower the ratio. It will also allow them to have access to instructional resources.
