My Students

My students are 4-5 years old and they are from a variety of different economic backgrounds with over 98% of students receiving free lunch. They come to school enthusiastic, happy and eager to learn. Our school's location is in downtown Miami.

In the neighborhood of downtown Miami, my students are not exposed to many resources that are geared towards a Pre-K/Kindergarten student.

It is because of this reason that I would be seeking the assistance of Donors Choose and their sponsors to help me to help my students.

My Project

Due to the high enrollment of new incoming students, more computers are needed to improve the student to computer ratio. Students are expected to complete computer assignments everyday, so it is very important to have these computers so that their time will not be cut in half.

Since the arrival of my new students, there have been days where some students have missed their computer time.

I may get 70% - 80% of the class on the computer, but I struggle to get everyone on because I do not have enough computers to go around. Today my heart sank a little when one student came up to me and said, "Miss Smith, I did not get to go on the computer."

These laptops will allow my students to have the necessary time on the computers as they acquire the knowledge they need to complete their independent work. Every day, student's have a new activity or assignment. If this assignment is not completed, it continues into the next day and it also lowers their daily percent average when I run their report. By having these computers in my classroom, it helps with not having to shift daily assignments into the next day. Each student will be able to complete their assignments, feel good about themselves, and when I check their percent average their scores will eventually increase.
