Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
As a new teacher, I hope to give my students an environment where they feel supported and loved. School should be their safe and happy place, a place where they can develop themselves and their futures.
I teach in a Title I school, where 100% of the students receive free or reduced-price lunch and more than 40% are English Language Learners.
My students face hardships in and out of school and I want to alleviate their in-school experience as much as possible. I want to create a positive classroom experience so they can achieve their maximum potential.
My Project
After attending Get Your Teach On in June, I was inspired to create another classroom transformation, The Glow Zone!
With this project, my students will be able to walk into a black-lit glow party to practice reading strategies and so much more!
Hope King, a teacher at the Ron Clark Academy, taught us all about a Neon Read-On where kids were actively engaged in using reading strategies by highlighting important information of a text under a black light.
In my classroom, the kids will walk into a room that is lit by the black light. On each table will be an assortment of glow sticks and glow glasses! Each kid gets their own neon glasses and accessories while rocking out to music and getting their neon read-on!
This activity will make it possible to transform my classroom and make learning a full on party!
