Welcome to Kindergarten!

Help me give my students "Welcome to Kindergarten" packs to help them practice skills and get ready!

My Students

The students at my school are from a rural farm community. We have a small school at the edge of a large corporation. Our students come from all socioeconomic backgrounds. We are lucky to have great families that work hard and are involved in our school events, but we don't get a lot of extra funding from the state. This is due to our school not qualifying as a Title I school. Title I schools have a higher level of free and reduced-price lunches than we currently have.

My sweet kiddos are hard workers, but they have lots of extra energy and thrive during hands-on activities.

We try to keep moving around our classroom several times throughout the day to help with this. I also have tried to incorporate a flexible seating environment to keep their little bodies wiggling, while engaged in learning, while at our seats. We have had a lot of success when we use hands-on manipulatives and activities.

I love to provide learning opportunities that will get my students moving, thinking, and stimulating their learning by creating.

My Project

I am so excited about this "Welcome to Kindergarten" project! I have been thinking about it and planning it for a long time. We have Kindergarten Registration in April and then the students are invited to come to school to visit in May. Parents are given important information and the kiddos get to come to the kindergarten classroom for about an hour to do a project and explore the classrooms. Then everyone goes on a tour of the school! I would love to have a goody bag for the kids filled with a welcome to Kindergarten book, "Kindergarten, Here I Come!" in a drawstring backpack. Then we can fill it with alphabet letters cards, number and counting flash cards, and a Kindergarten practice workbook. What a great learning tool to help our new students get ready for their school career!

I know the new Kindergarten kiddos will be so excited to get a new backpack filled with great learning activities to get them ready for Kindergarten!

It is my hope that they would practice these skills to help them get ready for school and be able to keep them organized in the new drawstring bag! These fun items would all be great practice for those who have attended a preschool and a great learning tool for those students who have not had a preschool background! This project will help all the new kindergarten students who register and attend our Kindergarten Orientation giving them a great learning boost.
