My Project

Fifth grade is a year full of excitement and transition. They are the oldest in the school, have many opportunities for leadership and energized about their learning. I am moving to 5th grade after teaching middle school for most of my career and I am super excited to work with 5th grade and prepare them for their middle school transition in a mindful and caring way.

I have always taken pride in my classroom being warm, inviting, and a safe place to learn and gain essential life skills.

It is important my classroom be an environment any student, no matter if they are assigned to my class or not, feel they can come in, feel regulated, and get support.

I need some items to assist me in this transition. I have chosen things I can integrate into my classroom environment for seating options and add to my self-regulation tools offered to students. Understanding and adjusting to a student's learning needs is essential. I want to create a classroom that has some flexibility in seating and some ways that students can learn to self-regulate. Students learn and grow in their academic and social-emotional skills if they feel safe and regulated in their space.

Having solid self-regulation skills is critical to a student's academic and social-emotional well-being. Having the ability to offer flexible seating and varied workspace options, as well as tools to assist in regulation, allows students to feel comfortable, safe, and empowered in their development and learning.
