Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

When students have to carry their textbooks, there is an increased chance of the book being lost, stollen, damaged, forgotten, or misplaced. Students also carry an added 10-20 pounds on their backs. This can have many negative effects on students.

Every classroom has a little bit of chaos.

When you add seeing 60+ students in a day with nowhere to store their things, that increases the chaos. With no storage in the classroom, the only place for the student to keep their books/assignments is in their backpack. This can make their backpacks quite heavy. It can also delay the start of the day if they need to go get their books from somewhere else. Lost, misplaced, or damaged textbooks can also keep students from participating in sports, promotions, and other school events due to fines.

With the cost of textbooks between $60 and $200, it is often not feasible for families to replace them. This is especially true at a Title I school like mine. I want to give these students the world, and that starts with a safe, HEALTHY place to keep their books.
