Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Everyday the students at our little school are so excited and eager to come to school. They come through the doors with big smiles and joy on their faces. My students come from many diverse backgrounds! We have English speaking students and many non English speaking students from many countries. There are many languages spoken in our school and learning English can be a challenge. Sometimes the only English they hear and speak is when they come to school. We are almost 80% ESL (English as a second language). Our school is right in the middle of a low income housing complex and serves students from two other low income housing projects as well. We are over 90% free and reduced lunch! Many times the educational experiences we provide are the only ones these students will ever experience. The eagerness these students have is so exciting to see.

My Project

First grade students are very active! They move a lot and are very excited to learn. They shouldn't have to sit still all day in a classroom.

I would like to purchase chairs that allow my first graders to move around as they learn.

Many of my students have a lot of energy and need a way to use that energy as they learn.

I will use these chairs primarily with my students that have the most energy. They often get restless and I want to make them comfortable as they learn. A comfortable environment will lead to more engagement which will increase learning!
