My students need new reading materials to keep them engaged and excited about reading throughout the school year.
I work in a large Title 1 school with a high population of English Language Learners. These little learners are hard working students who are eager to grow.
Although I do not have any control over what happens when these children leave my classroom, I can ensure that they have the best experiences and opportunities inside my 4 walls.
Although a stranger may walk in my class and see a "typical" second grader, what they won't see is that 99% of my students are eligible for free and reduced lunch, basically meaning that their families are struggling financially. Something like this may prevent them from getting ahead early in life and can definitely have a negative impact on a child from the start.
However, as soon as that morning bell rings I am sure to focus on each student's growth and learning potential. By maintaining a positive and engaging classroom, I hope my students will be inspired to continue on a path to success.
This year, I am moving up to second grade with my same kiddos from last year. Because of this, my students need books! The books in my library are specifically for first grade, so I need to update my library to best fit the needs of my students. In my project, I have included some leveled texts I can add to my classroom library. Students will be able to check out these books to read everyday.
My students need engaging and exciting new texts to teach them important life lessons.
In my project I have also included some read aloud texts that I plan on sharing with my students throughout the year. These books will teach essential skills like kindness, compassion, and how to attain a positive growth mindset. Some of the books I will be purchasing are Wonder, The Jelly Donut Difference, and Spaghetti in a Hot Dog Bun.
