Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are energetic 4 year olds who love to learn! Our class is made up of 10 boys and 8 girls. Our small school is a kind and caring learning environment, nestled in a neighborhood just outside of downtown Los Angeles. Approximately 75% of our students are considered economically disadvantaged and qualify for free or reduced rate lunch. Our population is diverse with students coming from many ethnic backgrounds. We have received the honors of Title I High Achieving School and California Distinguished School.
My Project
Our school is in an urban area and my students have little experience with wild animals. If funded, the Star Eco Station will come to our school with rescued animals from the wild. The presenter will come with several rescued wild animals, some of which can be held or touched by students.
This hands on experience with animals will help my students develop animal compassion.
While we have hermit crabs in our classroom, and some students have pets at home, their overall experience with animals is extremely limited. I would live to help them learn about and develop a love for all different types of animals.
