Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach a first grade class with students who have various exceptionalities.
Energetic, lively, and excited to learn is how I would describe my amazing third-grade students.
Our school is Title I-funded and is located in a low-income neighborhood in Hialeah, Florida (one of the hot spots for COVID-19.) Most of our families have immigrated from Cuba, Puerto Rico, and South America. Ninety percent of our population is receiving free or reduced-price lunch. Regardless of their economic disadvantages, my students are eager to learn and excited to share their ideas.
My Project
Healthy snacks are an important part of a growing child's diet.
Students come to school bright and early and are usually burned out by the end of the day.
Most of my students participate in after school programs or attend aftercare. They need a snack to gain energy and stay focused.
In addition, many students are not financially able to bring or buy snacks. I have tried to provide them with some snacks, but it has become extremely expensive for me to do. This is why it is crucial for donors to fund this project.
