This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We come from an at risk Title I school and currently we are also a host school for some refugee kids.

For many of them, the food they eat here is all they get.

They get assistance from a food bank but I know that they have to share it with other family members. Even with their struggles at home, they come to school very happy and eager to learn, especially the refugee kids. Their most favorite part of the day is when we have story time. They just love it! I let them borrow books from my library all the time. Occasionally the books don't come back but that's okay. If they want it that bad, they can have it.

My Project

We are a class of 2nd grade students in an outdoor portable classroom away from the main building. We do not have a sink in our room which makes it difficult to keep our hands, desks, and classroom clean.

We need some Clorox wipes so that we can wipe down our tables and desks everyday.

With the flu season here, we could also use some Kleenex tissues so students can use one tissue and throw it away immediately. Some students have been keeping used tissues in their desks and reusing them. Having them use sanitizer afterwards will help keep the germs at a minimum.

Many times when we go into the main building for bathroom breaks the soap dispenser is empty. Having some extra soap on hand will ensure their hands are washed clean after using the bathroom.
