Laughing, giggling and happy, our children are bright and inquisitive.
Forty percent of our new students arrive without knowing any English.
Our students need a wide variety of English language support. Kindergarten is often their very first school experience. The students spend more awake hours at school than they do at home. We need a large ABC rug to meet as a group and for reading.
Our extended days are full of fun, challenge and direct instruction. Many students and their families do not speak English. Our school setting is the first time they have been in a completely English environment. There is a real gap between these students and their families, and students who speak fluent English. Unfortunately, this gap will remain without early intervention.
My Project
A large meeting rug will serve as our group gathering space where the students will receive instruction, relax and read together. Our morning meeting gathering on the rug prepares my students for learning and sets a positive tone for the day.
The Kindergarten curriculum focus is Literacy and Math, including learning our letters and letter sounds, reading, writing and numeracy skills.
Your generous donation will provide my students with a rug where we can meet for Literacy and Math instruction daily.
The new rug will give our 1950's classroom a bit of an update as well as provide the students with a clean learning space.
