Laughing, giggling and happy, our children are bright and inquisitive. Our extended days are full of fun, challenge and direct instruction. However, we are facing a huge educational gap with a percentage of the class. The students and their families do not speak English. Our school setting is the first time they have been in a completely English environment. There is a real gap between these students and their families, and students who speak fluent English. Unfortunately, this gap will remain without early intervention. These students need excellent early school experiences and careful monitoring of progress to assure they do not fall into the education 'gap'. While the Kindergarten day has become highly academic these children are developing personal and social skills that enable them to be responsible citizens and loving friends. Excellence in education involves teaching the whole child!
