Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our charter school is set in the heart of Barrio Logan in San Diego and serves our low socioeconomic community. Despite the obstacles our students endure they are always eager to learn, open to new ideas, and thoughtful!! The smiles they bring to school truly are an inspiration to me knowing full well that they are going through their own struggles at such a young day and yet, the positivity they bring to their learning is always so encouraging!

Despite being a Title I school, our teachers and staff do the utmost to make sure that our students are provided with the necessary supplies, resources, and importantly, are loved.

My Project

After almost 2 years of online learning and reading from digital libraries, my students have been enjoying having access to my classroom library. They are flying through my books and they are hungry for more! All of the books in my library are treated with love and care and my students are very appreciative of the opportunity to have a safe and comfortable environment to read in.

All of these books have been chosen with my students in mind - they are yearning to continue the stories of these characters they have developed relationships with.

It has been touching to see them get excited to hold actual books rather than read off of a screen. These new books will help continue their engagement with their reading and give them the opportunity to grow as young readers. This project will only help to further enrich their experience as readers!
