A fabulous program that our school offers are after-school clubs that allow the students to continue a balance of academic and extracurricular activities that they wouldn't otherwise get outside of school. The clubs that our program offers range from anything to learning poetry and how to code, to creating blankets for children in Central America and playing soccer. These clubs are held every trimester and not only give the students something to do after school, but give the students a sense of belonging in our school community. The club that I will be leading is a hula and Tahitian club where I will teach the students the art, history, and discipline of the cultural dances. While practicing after school, a sarong puts the students in the practice mindset, allows them to track their movement, and functions as a uniform to help the students self-identify as part of the community. As we will be performing for our school and students later in the trimester to showcase our new skills, adding a plumeria hair clip will be just the perfect touch to the rest of the costume. I hope that with this project, I can share another culture with our students and give them an opportunity to express themselves in another art form!
